Hello,
With great reluctance and sorrow, the Carroll and Madison Public Library Foundation must announce the decision to suspend Books in Bloom 2011 due to circumstances having nothing to do with the foundation or the festival. It’s an unfortunate case of collateral damage.
Plans for this year’s festival were well underway, but a political situation has arisen in one of our counties that the Board members felt would seriously impact our ability to put on another successful event.
This is particularly frustrating because Books in Bloom had finally begun to be viewed as an established and worthwhile event, attracting people from all over the state and region, and being noted in national publications. The roster of authors who traveled to the Ozarks to be part of the festival is long and impressive, and we are profoundly grateful to all the sponsors and participants who shared our passion for celebrating the unique relationship between those who write books and those who read them.
The Carroll Madison Foundation supports all six libraries in both counties with such projects as the full purchase of the linked website used by the libraries and workshops for the librarians and last year’s Writers Workshop with author Steve Barry. We plan to use this hiatus to explore other ways that we may be able to advance the cause of literacy. Please stay tuned.
Thank you.
