Arts & Crafts Market on Main

the Grand opening of the new outdoor Arts & Crafts Market @ 269 N Main Street (1 block south of the Train Depot) will be held Saturday April 14th and Sunday April 15th. The Market will be open every weekend (Sat & Sun) thereafter, through the season.

ARTrageous Parade Saturday May 5th

The 2012 ARTrageous Parade will take place on Saturday, May 5th for the 25th Annual May Festival of the Arts.

May Festival parade dancersThis artful and sometimes outrageous parade rolls through historic downtown Eureka Springs beginning at 2 p.m., but it is recommended that you get there earlier to get the best viewing locations. One of the kick-off events for the May Festival of the Arts, the parade will feature colorful floats, walkers, bands, and more, adorned Eureka-style.

Applications are now available for participation including costumed walkers and walking groups; floats by individuals, businesses, and organizations; bands, and more, to join the parade that will wind down Spring Street starting at 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded in various categories. Applications for participation should be completed by April 30th – forms also at Chamber of Commerce in Pine Mountain Village or contact Lorna at 479-363-9402 or email for information.

White Street Studio Walk 2012

The 22nd Annual White Street Studio Walk takes place on May 18, 2012 – the 3rd Friday of the month long May Festival of the Arts.

White Street Studio Walk (2010)

White Street, on the upper historic loop, is the working address of several local artists who welcome you into their homes and studios to view their latest works. They will be joined by more than forty guest artists, who will show weaving, watercolors, jewelry, oils, pottery, stained glass and much more.

Amazing art combines with a block party atmosphere to provide a great time for the whole family. Turquoise flags identify participating locations.

Books in Bloom 2012 – a literary festival

2010 Books in Bloom at 1886 Crescent Hotel

The date for the 2012 Books in Bloom is May 20, 2012 from 12 Noon to 5:00 pm, at the 1886 Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs.

The annual Garden Party event is free and open to the public, held rain or shine.

A stunning lineup of accomplished authors will read from their work and bring insights into writing, publishing and what inspires them. You can expect dynamic presentations, connections with booksellers and author signings.

Books in Bloom Literary Festival is a Garden Party Celebration for Writers and Readers established in 2005 by the Carroll and Madison Public Library Foundation to promote the value of books and reading. The Festival provides an opportunity for the public to meet authors and to hear them speak about their work and various aspects of writing and publishing.

Monthly Poetluck at Writer’s Colony

The monthly Poet Luck at Writers’ Colony will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 during May Festival of the Arts – This potluck dinner and literary salon is open to the public and held the third Thursday of every month, March-October at The Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow in Eureka Springs.

“Poetluck” brings together established visiting poets and writers with local poets and writers, aspiring writers, and all those interested in the creative process. Bring a dish or beverage to share, and a receptive, interested mind. The evenings combine conviviality, craft, and critique. Topical content may make this event suitable for ages 14 and above.

Potluck begins at 6 p.m.- Join us to share dinner, listen to the resident writers for 20 minutes, and then share your own work for up to four minutes. followed by readings of writers in residence and locals and visitors who would like to share a 4 minute read.

Denise Ryan will offer an Acrylic Painting Workshop at ESSA-Eureka Springs School of the Arts, May 29-June 1, 2012.

Denise Ryan has a Master’s degree in Fine Art with a major in Painting and a minor in Art History She has been painting for forty years and is featured on the cover of ESSA’s 2012 calendar. www.deniseryanart.com

The workshop will cover realism (2 days), abstraction(one day), and painting with a knife(one day) with the intent of providing the student with a foundation to further their education in painting. Open to all levels.

Taste of Art: A Visual Feast

This years month-long Visual Feast is the 3rd year of the Taste of Art during May Festival of the Arts in Eureka Springs.

Eureka Springs restaurants join in the May Festival of the Arts with this ongoing event presenting works of Eureka Springs visual artists at many of the city’s finest restaurants. The exhibits will include receptions in the restaurants honoring the artists on various dates during May.

Participating restaurants and artists and dates of exhibits and receptions will be posted soon.

Digital Photography Workshop with Edward Robison

Edward Robison Photography

A Digital Photography workshop will be offered by Edward Robison at ESSA May 29-June 1, 2012.

Edward Robison received his Bachelors of Fine Art in Photography from the Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, Missouri. His work is featured in the Sacred Earth Gallery, the Sierra Club calendar and online at www.ecr3.com.

This workshop will be held from 1pm-8pm and will focus on special time of day effects including twilight. The student will learn to master the techniques of digital photography from the photographer’s viewpoint as quality photographs are created. A comprehensive overview of digital photography will be presented with all aspects from resolution to aperture to printing. Geared to the beginner as well as the amateur photographer.

The 4-day class schedule is 1 pm-8 pm
Tuition : $220 + Materials

Wayne Summerhill will be offering a metal sculpture workshop for all levels at ESSA May 7-11, 2012.

Metal Sculptor Wayne SummerhillWayne Summerhill has been creating metal art for over thirty years. He is noted for his steel sculptures of guitars used by many famous musicians including Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison. The Hard Rock Corporation commissioned three of his music inspired sculptures displayed in their Miami location. His work can be seen at the Blue Moon Gallery in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

This workshop will involve basic to advanced methods on tool safety, metal cutting techniques, material preparation, texturing techniques, methods of forming metal, fabrication and welding techniques, and patina and finishes.

The 5-day class schedule is 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Studio 62 in Eureka Springs is hosting its 7th Annual Art as Prayer—a month-long exhibition of original works, utilizing art as a vehicle to spirituality. Open 10-5 daily except Wednesdays. Studio 62 is the gallery of resident artists, Jody Stephenson and Ron Lutz. Open year-round.
