As a part of the 24th annual May Festival of the Arts, the Eureka Springs Mayor’s Art Council is hosting a fabulous show of art created by Eureka Springs artists. The show is being staged in the gallery space in the garden level of the newly renovated Queen Anne Mansion and will be open throughout the month of May.

This year the work of almost 50 painters, photographers, wood workers and sculptors is on display. Zeek Taylor, chairperson of the Mayor’s Art Council and an exhibiting artist in the show, said “ This show demonstrates the quality and breadth of art in Eureka Springs. It is truly an amazing collection of art.”

The show is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM (closed Wednesdays) and can be viewed as part of a tour of the Queen Anne Mansion or separately. Visitors to the show will be asked to vote for their favorite artwork, with the winning artist receiving a $1000 prize.

The Eureka Springs Invitational Art Show is presented with the co-operation of Cornerstone Bank, the 1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa, and the Queen Anne Mansion House Museum, located at 115 W. Van Buren (U.S. Hwy 62).

The 2011 ARTrageous Parade will take place on Saturday, May 7th for the 24th Annual May Festival of the Arts.

This artful and sometimes outrageous parade rolls through historic downtown Eureka Springs beginning at 2 p.m., but it is recommended that you get there earlier to get the best viewing locations. One of the kick-off events for the May Festival of the Arts, the parade will feature colorful floats, walkers, bands, and more, adorned Eureka-style.

Applications are now available for participation including costumed walkers and walking groups; floats by individuals, businesses, and organizations; bands, and more, to join the parade that will wind down Spring Street starting at 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded in various categories. Downtown Eureka Springs Art Fair – Free event.

This will be an open air Fine Art exhibit and sale by regional artists in a street fair setting in Basin Spring Park and along Center Street, Friday, May 13, 1-5 p.m. and Saturday, May 14, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The juried show is open to visual artists residing in Carroll, Boone, Benton, Madison, Newton, and Washington Counties. Booth fee for the two day event will be $25. Fee will be returned if applicant is not accepted. There is no jury fee.

Only hand-made original work may be displayed at the show (no made for market items.) Show organizers will determine booth locations. Application forms must be postmarked no later than April 1st.

The Eureka Springs Historical Museum presents a second season of its highly acclaimed ‘Voices from the Silent City’ on May 6th and May 13th. The costumed guided historical tours are held at the Eureka Springs Municipal Cemetery on Highway 62 East beginning at 5:30 p.m and about every 20 minutes through 8:00pm. Eureka Springs restaurants join in the May Festival of the Arts with A Taste of Art: A Visual Feast. The ongoing event will present works of Eureka Springs visual artists at many of the city’s finest restaurants. The exhibits will include receptions in the restaurants honoring the artists on various dates during May.

The 21st Annual White Street Studio Walk takes place on May 20, 2011 – the 3rd Friday of the month long May Festival of the Arts.

White Street Studio Walk (2010)

White Street, on the upper historic loop, is the working address of several local artists who annually welcome you into their homes and studios to view their latest works. They will be joined by more than forty guest artists, who will show weaving, watercolors, jewelry, oils, pottery, stained glass and much more.

Featured artist include: art students from Clear Spring School, Eleanor Lux, Karen Foster, Hana Maufe, Doug Stowe, Jack MIller, Fran Carlin, Jana Jean, C. Kudos to the Main Stage Creative Community Center for hosting this amazing show of assemblage art for the May Festival of the Arts.

Visitors at the opening reception Friday evening, May 13th, saw numerous works and got to talk with the artists including: John Rankin, Bill King, Susan Shore, Ralph Wilson, Dee Garrett, Norma Jean Marcon, Ginger Crump, and Christopher Fischer. (More images below)
