The 3rd annual Eureka Springs Invitational Art Show will be held during the month of May at ARTIFACTS Folk & Fine Art Gallery during the month of May.

Approximately 50 local Eureka Springs artists are displaying their work in the downtown Eureka Springs gallery. The viewing public is  invited to vote for their favorite artist in the show, with the top vote-getting artists receiving over $2,000 in prize money.

The 22nd Annual White Street Studio Walk takes place on May 18, 2012 – the 3rd Friday of the month long May Festival of the Arts.

White Street, on the upper historic loop, is the working address of several local artists who welcome you into their homes and studios to view their latest works. They will be joined by more than forty guest artists, who will show weaving, watercolors, jewelry, oils, pottery, stained glass and much more.

Amazing art combines with a block party atmosphere to provide a great time for the whole family. Turquoise flags identify participating locations.

“The Spirit of the Ozarks” is the theme for the new Eureka Springs Art Park outdoor art exhibit sponsored by the Mayor’s Arts Council.

The Art Park is located in the 1 North Main Parking Lot (previously home to The Artery).

Colorful works by 27 artists will be displayed on 4 foot x 8 foot and 4 foot x 4 foot panels. Works by Larry Mansker, Jim Nelson, Zeek Taylor, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Jeremy McGraw, Wendi La Fey, Jae Avenoso, Marvin Jonason, Edward Robison, Janalee Robison, Robert Norman, Calvin Cotton, Adrian Frost, Allie Jensen, Janet Goodyear, Paul Van Klaveren, Karrie Evenson, Ben Rodda and more!

To kick off the unveiling of the Art Park, we’ll start with an ‘Art Attack’ and the public is invited to participate. At 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 19th the public and various locals – all dressed in black and white- will begin a spontaneous promenade in Basin Park with Angelo drumming – proceeding down Spring street down to the Art Wall in the North Main Parking lot across from the New Dehli.  At 3pm we will unveil the “Spirit of the Ozarks”. Finding Nature – Art in the Landscape is a group exhibit featuring 23 Eureka Spring’s artists that opens at The Space with an artist reception Saturday, May 19, from 5 to 9 p.m. The exhibit, curated and organized by local artists Christopher Fischer and John Rankine explores through a wide variety of mediums the personal connection the individual artist has with nature.

The exhibit will also feature several site-specific installations around Carroll County including a collaborative sculpture installation, where artists were invited to create structures/ sculptures from the fallen dead limbs and branches collected around the land on the Hills of Keels Creek.  A closing ceremony, where many of the sculptures will be set ablaze in the large field is scheduled on Sunday May 27^th from 5 to 10 p.m.  Everyone is invited. The Hills of Keels Creek is off of Rockhouse Road, and is the first road left after the second bridge.

The exhibit at The Space will be open to the public from May 19 – 26 and can be viewed between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.  The Space is located at 2 Pine St. above Sweet Spring Antiques across the street from the  post office.

2010 Books in Bloom at 1886 Crescent Hotel

The date for the 2012 Books in Bloom is May 20, 2012 from 12 Noon to 5:00 pm, at the 1886 Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs.

The annual Garden Party event is free and open to the public, held rain or shine.

A stunning lineup of accomplished authors will read from their work and bring insights into writing, publishing and what inspires them. You can expect dynamic presentations, connections with booksellers and author signings.

Books in Bloom Literary Festival is a Garden Party Celebration for Writers and Readers established in 2005 by the Carroll and Madison Public Library Foundation to promote the value of books and reading. The Festival provides an opportunity for the public to meet authors and to hear them speak about their work and various aspects of writing and publishing.

Artifacts Gallery, in their new locations at 37 Spring St (upstairs), will host a MEET THE ARTIST event: 6:00 – 8:00 during the Saturday Gallery Stroll, May 19th, featuring fine artist, Diane Harvey.

Eureka Springs artist, Diane Harvey will be demonstrating demonstrating her oil painting techniques and showing new works.

Diana originally intended a path in archeology and art history, studying for two years in the Prado Museum in Madrid, then receiving a degree in archeology back in the States. On the way to a life in museum work, she discovered the bliss of creating art. Encouraged by her artist husband, Bob Z. Harvey, she plunged into studio art work. Early success cemented her determination to become an artist, and thirty productive years have affirmed it. Her lyric images reflect her varied interests in myth, dream, poetry, history, and art. A meditation on the deep mystery of beauty is how she thinks of her work. Still an avid traveler and devotee of art museums. Diana is delighted with having Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art nearby to raise the art spirit. Exclusively a painter now, intaglio printmaking was Diana’s first focus, and her etchings are in thousands of private, public, and corporate collections in this country, Europe, and Asia.

~ Artist’ Statement ~
Late in the summer of 2008 I happened to meet one of the Ozarks finest artists, Jerry Crowe. I have long admired his “Unique Turnings”; what he can create from a chunk of wood has always amazed me! I asked him if he could teach me to turn wood and he graciously agreed. I met him at his shop on a Saturday morning and he hasn’t been able to get rid of me since! I am totally enthralled with turning.

When I first approach a newly cut “blank” and set it between centers on the lathe I feel both excitement and fear. Excitement in wondering what kind of marvelous form is waiting to emerge from the blank canvas; fear that I will ruin it before I can determine what it wants to become.

I feel that we are blessed to be able to produce art with “green” properties by using one of Mother Nature’s most renewable resources – the local timber of our beautiful Ozarks hills. Because of the natural properties of burl wood, just like snowflakes, no two will ever be identical. I can take no credit for the natural beauty of the wood; I simply expose what was hiding there all along.

In January 2012, I left the corporate world and became a full-time wood turner. I believe my finished turnings, rather than my words, reveal my passion for this art form. I hope you enjoy touching them and holding them as much as I have enjoyed my part in creating them!
