presenting our annual month-long celebration of the Arts beginning May 1st with the ARTrageous Parade and continuing through Memorial Day Weekend May 28-31st. . .with an expanded line up for 2010 including the premier of the GRAND ILLUMINATION and the Invitational Art Show at the newly opened Queen Anne Mansion!

The 2010 May Festival of the Arts in Eureka Springs will kick-off with the annual ARTrageous Parade at 2:00 in Downtown along Spring Street.

With this year’s theme of the parade, Go Hawg Wild, parade coordinator Dan Ellis has announced that the Grand Marshall of the parade will be none other than Razorback’s mascot, Tusk III.

Tusk III will be on hand following the parade to sign autographs in the Basin Park area until 4:00 pm.

Artisans At The Lake Show

The Artisan’s At The Lake Art Show and sale will take place May 1st, 20l0 between 10am – 6pm at 324 Mundell Road (the Log Home Model in Grassy Knob community – follow the signs starting at 62 West and Hwy 187 junction at the Exxon).

This beautiful venue overlooking the lake will showcase the talented artisan’s that reside in the Grassy Knob/Beaver Lake area. These exceptional artists will showcase work in jewelry, pottery, oil/water color, woodwork, porcelain, and photography. Featured are Karin Boudet Ford, Carol Dickie, Art Miller, Carol Saari, David Smith, Jana Jean, Susan Storch, Phil Messer and Billie Kline.

Come spend a Saturday exploring the history and beauty of these unique locations. You can enjoy a great hike in the city limits of Eureka Springs – these 4 sites are a part of the East Mountain and Water Street areas and feature historic stonework and natural beauty. Bring your camera and share your vision!

Meet at the base of Jacob’s Ladder on Flint Street at 10:00 am and progress through each site completing your photo tour no later than 2:00. Locations include: Cave Spring, Cold Spring, Laundry Spring and Jacob’s Ladder.

All photographers are invited to submit an image from each location for possible inclusion in a photo exhibit at the Bank of Eureka Historical Museum downtown on May 15th as a part of the May Festival of the Arts.

The contest for this year’s poster was presented by the Eureka Springs Arts Council and the CAPC, with the theme of “Harmony’ for the 23rd Annual May Festival of the Arts.

Edward C. Robison III submitted the winning design in the poster design contest. Edward’s poster, based on an original photograph, was among ten entries submitted. See more of Robison’s work at his photography website.

Eureka Springs will welcome spring with a citywide display of colorful paper lanterns as vibrant and exciting as the city’s famous spring flowers. The inaugural Eureka Springs Grand Illumination will take place in the middle of Eureka’s May Festival Of The Arts over the weekend of May 13th-16th.

Downtown Eureka will be aglow with thousands of brilliant paper lanterns, day and night, as will many of the city’s stately Victorian homes. In addition to the beautiful displays other Eureka Springs Grand Illumination activities include paper lantern painting for kids in Basin Spring Park.

The event is patterned after the century-old Grand Illumination of the cottage-city gingerbread homes on Martha’s Vineyard. (see photo)

‘Masters’ Art Class at ESSA

Eureka Springs School of the Arts summer program kicks off with the annual Masters Class May 14-16.

Kevin KresseKevin Kresse, an Arkansas native living in Little Rock, will present an Oil Portraits class. The 3-day Studio class is for Intermediate Level students. The informative and fun portrait painting class will focus on capturing a subject’s likeness and personality in oils. Emphasis will be placed on individual attention to each artist participant’s needs and questions.

The  2010 ArtCar Get-together will be a 3-day event May 18-20th, bringing together art cars and art car enthusiasts from around the country.

Part of the “Great MidWestern ARTCAR Tour of 2010″, this event is sponsored by Eureka Springs ARTCARtists 2.0. A variety of activities and spontaneous parades and displays can be expected… Cruising, community outreach, meet and greet the art cartists, and a  Parade on Spring Street is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 19th.

Shakespeare in the Ozarks

Now that the new Arvest Stage in Harmon Park has been dedicated for the Shakespeare in the Ozarks 2010 season, we can look forward to the first performance during May Festival of the arts. Keith Scales, Artistic Director for SITO will be bringing a performance of A Comedy of Errors, Shakespeare’s first play. (more…)
